About Lightroom

Who are we?

Lightroom is a joint venture between 59 Productions and London Theatre Company. Lightroom’s CEO is Richard Slaney and its executive chair is Nick Starr, co-founder of London Theatre Company. Lightroom is backed by a group of investors led by Danny Cohen, President of Access Entertainment, and Mike Sherwood, former CEO of Goldman Sachs International.

Has David Hockney been involved in Bigger & Closer?

Yes, David Hockney has been directly involved in the process and collaborated with the production team in shaping the production, adapting old works and creating some new pieces too.

Will there be merchandise for sale?

Yes, we have Bigger & Closer merchandise for sale at our in house shop. Our online shop is coming soon.

How long is the show?

A full loop of the show is approximately 50 minutes long, but you are welcome to stay for longer. The show was designed to be watched from any point during the loop.

Is the show suitable for all ages?

Yes, the show is suitable for all ages.

Lightroom is open to everyone, and we welcome children of all ages. Younger children need to be supervised in the space and we ask that parents are considerate of the experience for all our guests.

Are there group rates?
Yes we have the following rates:
£5 off for groups 10+
£7.50 off for groups 30+
£10 off for groups 50+Applicable days: Mon – Thurs across all dates
Applicable time slots: Slots between 1pm – 8:30pm (excludes morning slots)

Do you take school group bookings?

Yes, a fixed Schools price of £15 per ticket is available to school groups of 10+. One teacher goes free for every 5 children.

How do I book tickets?

All tickets must be purchased directly from the Lightroom’s website or by phone on 0300 303 4216.

Tickets are sold subject to our conditions of sale and entry. Please note, the reselling of any ticket is strictly forbidden, and tickets sold via unauthorised third parties (including online auction sites, ‘fan to fan’ resale sites and all secondary ticket retail websites) are not valid for entry. Any ticket offered for resale either on or offline will result in the entire original booking being automatically void. The original purchaser and their party will be refused admission.

The credit or debit card that you used to purchase your ticket may be required as proof of purchase when you get to the venue.

Does my ticket come with an allocated seat?

No, all tickets for David Hockney: Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away) are general entry do not come with a seat allocation. The Lightroom space is designed to be enjoyed from all angles and we encourage you to move around the space and levelled viewing galleries during your visit. Seating blocks are available all around the show space.

How do the time slots work?

We sell tickets for entry every 30 minutes during show hours.

Your entry slot runs for 30 minutes after and inclusive of the time on your ticket – for example, if your ticket is for 10:00, you can enter any time from 10:00 until 10:29.

How can I pay?

You can pay online or over the phone using Mastercard, Visa, Maestro and American Express. We are a cashless venue.

How many tickets can I buy?

Bookings are limited to 9 tickets per performance per customer online. For larger bookings, please call the box office on 0300 303 4216, alternatively you can email groups@lightroom.uk

How much do tickets cost?

Prices may vary depending on the event and the availability. Be sure to check out each individual event time slot for accurate pricing details.

We do not charge any fees for online bookings or bookings made in person at Lightroom.

A £2.50 fee per transaction will be charged for all phone bookings except those made by Access List subscribers.

What discounts and concessions are available?

There is a concession price of £10 off the ticket price for students and under 18s.  ID may be required in the venue. We offer £5 tickets for recipients of Universal Credit, available Monday-Wednesday after 1pm.

Can I return or change the date of my tickets? Will I get a refund?

If for any reason you are unable to use your tickets we offer a flexible exchange service.

Tickets can be exchanged for another time slot on the same or alternative date (subject to availability) or for a credit voucher. We can also transfer tickets to a friend or relative if you can find someone else to use them.

We need minimum 2 hours notice before the time slot begins to make any changes or amendments to the booking.

To put tickets up for resale, or to transfer them into a different name, please contact us or call 0300 303 4216 or email tickets@lightroom.uk with details on what performance(s) you’d like to transfer into or whether you’d like to get a credit refund.

Refunds are otherwise only offered if a performance is cancelled or abandoned when less than half the performance has taken place.

What if I've bought a ticket but am not the one attending?

If you bought tickets as a gift or can no longer go to the performance, we can transfer tickets to a friend or relative. To return tickets, or to transfer them into a different name, please contact us on tickets@lightroom.uk or call 0300 303 4216.

If the performance I want is sold out, how can I get tickets? Are there any last minute tickets?

We don’t operate day tickets however we recommend the below if a performance is sold out.

Any tickets returned to us in advance will be offered for re-sale on our website automatically so do keep checking closer to the performance date. To offer a ticket for resale please contact the box office. Reselling tickets cannot be guaranteed. To reduce queues we are currently not offering day tickets or day returns.

You can register your details here to be added to our mailing list and be kept informed of future ticket releases. Please also follow our Twitter account and Facebook page to receive the latest news and updates on any last minute releases.

How/when will I receive my tickets?

We only offer e-tickets. Your e-ticket will be emailed to your confirmation email address with an attached PDF. You can either print this out and bring it with you on the day of the event or have it available on your electronic device so it can be scanned to allow entry.

We also recommend adding your mobile number to your account. Your tickets will be sent in a text to you on the day of the event.

My tickets are lost/haven’t arrived – what can I do?

If your tickets have not arrived by email by the day of the event, email the box office at tickets@lightroom.uk in advance for them to be emailed again.

Please also check junk/spam folders if you are unable to locate your e-tickets.

Why do I have to give my personal details when booking a ticket?

Contact information is helpful for us to have in case there is a problem with your ticket or the event and we need to get in touch. We will not sell your details or add you to a mailing list without your consent.

If purchasing tickets in person at the venue we still require your full name and a way to contact you, either a telephone number or an email address. This is just in case of the rare event that the event is cancelled or delayed due to health and safety reasons, power outage, or any other related, and rare, issue that may affect the event. 

If you buy a ticket on our website, we collect your name, address, and email address.

We also process your payment card information – although we don’t handle it directly or retain it: it’s all dealt with by our payment processor.

If you buy a ticket over the phone, we collect your name and calling telephone number and we’ll also collect your email address to send your tickets. We collect your payment card details, although we don’t process them ourselves – that’s done by our payment processor – or keep them.

If you buy a ticket, or anything else like food and drink, in our venues we will only collect data if you use a payment card, and then only to process the payment – which, once again, is done by our payment processing partner not by us.

We will use the information we’ve collected to handle your admission to the event for which you’ve bought tickets; to process and track your payments and to deal with any issues that may arise including complaints and refunds.

Can I buy a gift voucher for Lightroom?

Yes, they can be purchased online, by calling our phone room 0300 303 4216 or in person at the Lightroom ticket office.

Vouchers can be redeemed against tickets only. Vouchers are delivered to the recipient directly via email on the day of your choice.

Are tickets available to buy on the door?

Yes, you can buy tickets from the ticket desk at Lightroom, subject to availability.

You can purchase tickets using Mastercard, Visa, Maestro and American Express. We are a cashless venue.

Do you offer concessions for recipients of Universal Credit?

Yes, recipients of Universal Credit can purchase tickets for £5 on Monday-Wednesday after 1pm. To book, please email tickets@lightroom.uk quoting ‘Universal Credit Tickets’.

Visiting Lightroom

How do I get to Lightroom?

Lightroom is a 8 minute walk from Kings Cross and London St Pancras stations.

Our address is 12 Lewis Cubitt Square, London, N1C 4DY.

Is there a cloakroom/ can I bring luggage?

We do not have storage space for luggage. A pre-bookable luggage storage service is available at both Kings Cross and St Pancras stations. 

There is a free cloakroom for jackets and coats available in the venue.

What is the food and drink offering at Lightroom?

We are working with St. JOHN to provide drinks and snacks in our cafe bar.

We serve a variety of hot and cold drinks, alcoholic beverages and snacks including fresh doughnuts and pastries

Is there parking in the area?

The nearest car park is Handyside Car Park. There are 231 public car parking bays including 6 charging points for electric cars – 5 in standard bays and one in a disabled parking bay all on level 2 next to the lifts.

Where can my taxi drop me off?

Drop offs can take place on Handyside street.

Nearest parking is at Handyside Car Park including disabled bays.

Coaches can park near St Pancras station, we advise check the TFL coach parking webpage for more information.

What are the opening times at Lightroom?

We are open 7 days a week, full opening hours can be found at the top right of our website.

Is there free Wi-Fi?

Free Wi-Fi will be available in the foyer for ticketholders or patrons enjoying drinks in the foyer, please ask a member of staff for further details upon arrival.

Who do I contact for lost property?

If you have lost an item in the building, please email contact@lightroom.uk to check whether it has been handed in and to arrange collection from the box office during our opening hours. Please note that any unclaimed items will be disposed of after 30 days.

What type of seating is available during the show?

We encourage visitors to move around Lightroom and enjoy the space from multiple angles.

Should you require a seat: seating blocks are available throughout the show space and lower viewing gallery. These seats are unallocated.

The upper viewing gallery is standing only.

Is this a family friendly venue?

Yes, Lightroom is open to everyone, and we welcome children of all ages. Younger children need to be supervised in the space and we ask that parents are considerate of the experience for all our guests.

Can I bring a pram/buggy when I visit?

Prams are welcome at Lightroom but they cannot be taken into the show space.

We do have a designated area for prams and buggies to be safely stored in our main foyer.

Do children need an accompanying adult?

As we are a licensed venue serving alcohol we can’t host unaccompanied under 18 year olds.

Children under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult when visiting Lightroom.

What if I arrive early for my time slot? Will I be granted early entry?

Early entry will depend on venue capacity and cannot be guaranteed.

If you arrive early, you can enjoy our cafe bar or check your coat before entering the show space.

What happens if I arrive late?

Your entry time runs for 30 minutes after and inclusive of the time on your ticket – for example, if your ticket is for 10:00, you can enter any time from 10:00 until 10:29.

Entry for latecomers will depend on venue capacity and cannot be guaranteed. We advise you to arrive with enough time to be ready for entry at your allotted time slot.

Can I bring my dog/pet?

Unfortunately, pets are not permitted at Lightroom unless they are service animals.

Can I take photos and videos during the show?

Yes we’re happy for you to take photos and short video clips while in the venue for your personal use.  However, professional photography or videography is prohibited without written consent from the venue in advance. We don’t allow the use of tripods or flash within the space. Should our staff in the space feel that the photography is disturbing other visitors, we will ask you to stop.

Are there accessible toilets?

Yes there are 3 accessible toilets across the 3 floors of the building.

What is the access concessionary rate? Does my companion/carer go for free?

The access concessionary rate is £10 off the standard ticket price. Please select the relevant access ticket when booking.

If you need a carer please select access companion ticket type when booking and this ticket will be complimentary.

Please note you may be asked for proof of requirement when at the venue.

Can I arrange a wheelchair transfer?

You can borrow a wheelchair from us to use during your visit. To arrange for a wheelchair to be available, please email us at access@lightroom.uk before your visit. These are subject to availability and need to be requested in advance. 

We have Access Hosts at the venue that are happy to support you with any specific needs you may have.

What access equipment is available?

We have audio equipment to collect when entering the venue.

They are wireless receiver devices which receive a special audio feed of the show. They can be used with regular over ear headphones provided by Lightroom or visitors own wired headphones.

It should be noted that the experience is not like a cinema or theatre experience, so visitors may wish to try the experience  before they use such an assistance device.

We advise emailing access@lightroom.uk ahead of your visit to reserve a headset as there are only a limit amount at the venue.

What kind of assisted events are available and when are they?

We will be scheduling access and assisted performances in 2023 please check back or ask to be added to our access mailing list by emailing access@lightroom.uk

Is there level access? How accessible is the venue?

Yes, there is level access to the venue with lift service to all levels.

By foot, there are 3 flights of stairs down into the show space, and 4 flights of stairs to exit. 

Are there lift facilities in the venue?

There are lift facilities at the venue to all floors.

Is captioning available for performances?

Yes, captioning is available for all performances.
